You may have wondered at why you can’t study nursing in polytechnic but only in universities and special colleges of nursing where the course is taken more seriously with biased objectives for it. Polytechnics are seen as the institutions of learning where practical knowledge is imparted, and as so, many expect that they should also offer such respectable course as nursing. Why then is nursing offered or not offered in polytechnics?
Nursing is seen as a field of knowledge that encompasses autonomous and collaborative care of individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities, sick or well and in all settings. Nursing includes the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and the care of ill, disabled and dying people. The field of nursing includes clinical work and patient care in a range of healthcare settings. An education for this career path would include science disciplines and supervised practical training. There are also specialties within this field that may require additional coursework.
Given the above understanding about the medical-related course, Nursing, it is pertinent that one sees the intricacies that inhibit polytechnics’ capacity to cover for all the course-requirements of nursing. Although some nurses follow the traditional role of working in a hospital setting. Other options include: pediatrics, neonatal, maternity, OBGYN, geriatrics, ambulatory, and nurse anesthetists and informatics (eHealth). The precedent roles that are available for prospective individual trained in the field makes nursing a course that can only be studied in universities or special colleges where it is the only business.

Why You Can’t Study Nursing In Polytechnic.
Nursing, as a course, as well as the Midwifery Council of Nigeria signed a memo with the National Board for Technical Education for the take-off of Higher National Diploma in Nursing (HND Nursing) in Nigeria. The program is aimed at giving academic quantification to Nursing education in Polytechnics in Nigeria. It is unfortunate that none of the polytechnics have kicked off the teaching of the course, nor have they begun the training of students who are interested in studying it. Although the answer to why you can’t study nursing in polytechnic is NO, there are many science courses for any students who have chosen the dream to attend the polytechnics instead of universities or colleges. These courses are agricultural technology, agricultural engineering/technology, agricultural and bio-environmental engineering/technology, animal health and production tech, civil engineering technology, computer science, computer engineering, horticultural technology, horticulture and landscape technology, foundry engineering technology, etc.
