University of Ibadan in Nigeria education system……..The University of Ibadan was established in 1948.  UI as it is fondly referred to, is the first University in Nigeria. Until 1962 when it became a full-fledged independent University, it was a College of the University of London in a special relationship scheme.

The University of Ibadan is the oldest university in Nigeria and it’s sited about 5 miles from the center of the city of Ibadan in Oyo State, Western Nigeria.

The University, which initially started its academic program with just programs in Arts, Science, and medicine; is now a total center of learning with academic program courses offered in other relevant faculties.

It has the vision to function as a world-class university in academic excellence that is poised towards meeting societal values. It does that by expanding the frontiers of knowledge by providing standard and conducive learning and research environment.

In 1996, it is renowned to be the first Nigeria University to be a list of top 1000 in Times Higher Education rankings and prior to that, it had always made it top 10 African universities according to Webometrics ranking. Its great vision is to make it to top 100 universities in the world in the nearest future.

The university has residential and sports facilities for staff and students on campus, as well as separate botanical and zoological gardens.

Courses offered in University of Ibadan

The University of Ibadan operates institutes and departments that offer research-based courses. Besides the College of Medicine, It now has in total, 12 other faculties which offer courses in the following subjects: Arts, Science, Agriculture Renewable natural resources, Social Sciences, Education, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Technology, Law, Public Health, and Dentistry and economics, environmental design and management (proposed).

The candidate seeking admission must visit the University’s admission portal for the submission of Online Application for admission. The applicant must consider that every requirement should be combined with relevant subjects for the desired department as stated in the JAMB brochure.

The University admission requires  five credits in one sitting if you are seeking admission health-related department like Basic Medical Sciences, College of Medicine Clinical Sciences, Pharmacy,  Dentistry,  and Public Health,

For those seeking admission into departments under the faculties of Agriculture, sciences, arts, law, veterinary medicine, education, technology, and social sciences;  the requirement recognized is a five-credit in one sitting and six credits in two sittings.

The University of Ibadan JAMB cut off mark is 200.

The postgraduate school of the University of Ibadan is part of the university’s entity and center of students seeking admission to advance their studies in their field of studies or acquire a certificate of professionalism for their career.

They are also tasked with the responsibility of maintaining excellence in postgraduate training and to develop new programs required for academic efficiency.

The first postgraduate degree of the University was awarded in 1952 when it was still a University College under the scheme of the special relationship with the University of London. By 1962, when the University College transformed into the independent University of Ibadan, there were 64 students registered for higher degrees, some of whom decided to transfer their registration to the University of Ibadan.

The postgraduate Admission Office is the early port of call for all prospective postgraduate students of the University of Ibadan for postgraduate studies. As part of the current technological trends in re-admission, candidates may no longer have the need to come in person to purchase the application form manually as before.

Rather, all that is required is for the prospective candidate to make available his bio-data and e-mail and enter it correctly into the university admission portal made available. This will enable them to receive a special identifier before proceeding to obtain a payment invoice.
