The Faculty Board
Each Faculty is governed by a Faculty Board, which broadly controls the academic programme of the faculty subject to Senate approval. Although Senate is the supreme academic parliament of the University, in order that it may not be overburdened by details, a good deal of its functions is delegated to the Faculty Boards; the Vice Chancellor and the Deputy Vice Chancellors are statutorily members of each Faculty Board. The Chairman of the Faculty Board is the Dean of the Faculty who is elected for a specific period of time (one or two years as the case may be) normally from among the professors in the particular faculty. Part of the functions of the Dean is to present to Congregation for the conferment of degrees, persons who have qualified for degrees of the University at University examinations held in the various departments within his faculty.
The quorum of the Faculty Board is three (or the whole number nearest to one-third), of the total number of its members, whichever is greater.
