1. Inspector General of Police
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) is the head of Police force and most senior officer in the police service. The IGP controls the force through the chain of command of the Police Force. 2. Deputy Inspector General of Police

Nigeria Police Code Of Conduct
The purpose of having a code of conduct is to provide all members of the Nigeria Police Force with a set of guiding principles and standards of behaviour while on or off-duty.
This code of conduct will encompass the following:
1. Primary Responsibilities of a Police Officer
A police officer acts as an official representative of government who is required and trusted to work within the law.
The officer’s powers and duties are conferred by statute. The fundamental duties of a police officer include serving the community, safeguarding lives and property, protecting the innocent, keeping the peace and ensuring the rights of all to liberty, equality and justice.
2. Performance of duties as a police officer
A police officer shall perform all duties impartially; without favour of affection or ill-will. This should be without regard regard to status, sex, race, religion, political belief or aspiration.
3. Discretion
A Police officer will use responsibly, the discretion vested in his position and exercise it within the law.
4. Use of Force
A police officer will never employ unnecessary force or violence.
5. Confidentiality
Whatever a police officer sees, hears or learns which is of a confidential nature.
6. Integrity
A police officer will not engage in acts of corruption or bribery.

Police officers shall conduct themselves, whether on or off duty, in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and all applicable laws, ordinances and rules enacted or established pursuant to legal authority.

Nigerian Police Force Duties and Functions

- Applicants must be a Nigerian either by birth or nationalization and possess National Identity card.
- Applicants must not be less than 18 years of age or more than 25 years of age.
- Before you can apply for Nigerian Police force you must not have any form of abnormalities or deformities such as Bent knees, flat feet, and amputation of any part of the body, deformed hands that cannot perform the full functions of the hand.
- Minimum height for the applicant must not be less than 1.67 metres for males and 1.64 metres for females.
- Must have an O’ Level certificate at least five credits passes in English Language and Mathematics in not more than two sittings in WASSCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB.
- Advanced Level (A level), Ordinary National Diploma (OND), National Certificate in Education (NCE) or their equivalents (for cadet Inspectors).
- University degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND).
- Applicants must download and fill the Guarantors’ form.
- All applicants must be medically fit and meet the medical standards of the Nigerian Police Force.
