List of Countries Under NATO is a compilation of members of the international conglomerate of countries who share membership with the sole goal of protecting the peaceful political interests of their members. NATO full meaning is North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

When was NATO Established and Why.

NATO was Created in 1949 with just 12 member-countries as founders. Its major aim is to establish a mutual defense for its members and against the former Soviet Union and its communist ideologies which are perceived dangerous to the liberalism that should be allowed for sovereignty of member-countries to thrive. NATO is an intergovernmental military alliance between countries in North America and Europe and it is to protect the freedom of its peoples.

Given the many countires which subsequently show interest with the objectives, NATO has since grown to 30 countries—many of which were part of the Soviet Union or its satellites. NATO’s purpose was to protect democratic nations against the spread of communism in Europe. It was formed following World War II in order to respond to the threat posed after the Second World War by the Soviet Union.

Its founding treaty was finally signed in Washington, D.C. by a dozen European and North American countries. NATO is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
