On 11 July 2019, Zelenskyy held his first telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which he urged Putin to enter into talks mediated by European countries.

As Russian military forces lay siege to Ukraine’s capital city on the second day since Putin launched a full-scale invasion of the country, Zelenskyy reportedly joined his fleet of soldiers at the battle front against the Russian forces. Many saw it as an extraordinary act of bravery, one that matches that of ordinary Ukrainians citizens taking up arms and scrambling to protect themselves as their country becomes a nightmarish scene of war.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is no soldier. He started first as an actor and comedian, then as a politician before he finally was voted in as Ukrainian president.
He certainly has had no combat history, let alone basic battle skills to fight like real soldiers. It is indeed a brave move or hero deed/role for a man who has Volodymyr Zelenskyy to want to defend his people even if he has to put everything at stake.
