Modes of Entry into the UI DLC Programmes
There are three modes of securing admission into UI DLC namely, ‘O’ level and Direct Entry and intra/inter University transfer.
The ‘O’ Level Mode
The ‘O’ level mode is usually a 5-year programme. Candidates for this mode must possess 5 or 6 credits at one or two sittings. Apart from possession of the requirements, candidates will be requested to write an entrance examination. The entrance examination is CBT and the syllabus covers English Language Grammar, knowledge of ICT and the test of candidates Knowledge of ODL and the University of Ibadan. However, candidates that applied for the University’s regular programmes but were not considered could be considered at the centre provided such meet the entry requirements. Such candidates would not need to obtain another form from the DLC but would rather be considered automatically.
The Direct Entry Mode
The Direct mode is a 4-year programme; it should be noted that two programmes, namely Psychology and Political Science, tolerates or accommodates fast track. This allows Candidates with HND, Bachelor and Higher Degrees to be allowed to spend three years to run the programme.
It should be mentioned that candidates who are qualified for Direct Entry programme should, apart from meeting the ‘O’ level requirements for the chosen programme, such must be holders of any of the following certificate (As may be required by each Programme Unit):
- Cambridge ‘A’ Level Certificate
- NCE
- OND/HND
It should be noted that any certificate that are accepted by the Centre must be accredited by the Senate of the University. In this regard, NABTEB, IJMB, Cooperative College and School of Hygiene certificates are not accepted for admissions into the Centre’s programmes.
Fast-track Mode of Learning:
Candidates with HND and first degree candidates are allowed to run the programme for three (3) academic sessions. This is referred to as FAST-TRACK Mode. Under this mode, qualified candidates will be requested take all compulsory and required courses at all levels before graduation: this implies that the course load of this mode is higher. It should also be noted that learners of this mode pay higher fees than the learners of other modes. The programmes that accommodate this mode are available under the waivers column of the requirement section.
Maturity Criteria (for 5 Years Programmes Only): Candidates who possess 5 credits at two sittings including English Language may apply on the grounds of maturity/work experience. Such candidates must be at least 26 years old and must provide the following information: Academic qualification, Professional experience, Self-appraisal of Professional Competence, recommendation from competent individuals. An oral interview/literacy test would be part of their selection process (further details online).
Open Access Initiative:
- Notwithstanding other specific or general requirements, holders of OND, HND and University Diplomas may apply to any Department of their choice for 4-year programmes provided they possess requisite O’ Level requirements.
- Bachelor’s Degree and Postgraduate Degree holders may apply freely to any Department.

Intra/Inter University TransferMode
The third mode of entry into the Centre, as earlier mentioned, is the intra/inter-University transfer of programme. This mode allows students who desire to transfer their programmes from other Universities or from the parent University of the Centre. Such transfer could be necessitated by the need to change the mode of study from the regular to the ODL or the need to change the University of Study for other reasons other than committing criminal offences by the applicants.
This mode accommodates candidates from any level but the applicant would be admitted to 200 Level. Also, the course of study of the candidate from the transferring University must bear relevant and very close semblance with the course the applicant is applying for at the Centre.
Such candidate that would be considered for the transfer of study must provide the academic transcript of the transferring University. Also, the candidate must provide a letter to attest to his/her character from the Registrar of the transferring University. Such letter must be addressed to the Director, Distance Learning Centre, University of Ibadan.
It should be noted, however, that candidate seeking admissions via this mode must present transcript not older than two academic sessions of record. In other words, the candidate must have been on a course of study not later than two academic session before seeking the admission.
