The SRC was established in 2011 under the Salaries and Remuneration Act of 2011, and among other things, it also ensures equity and fairness in the public service.

Civil servants’ benefits and allowances have several components. The total compensation package is a combination of current rewards and future expectations.

The current allowances for Civil servants in Kenya are as follows:

  • House allowance

For the house allowance:

  • Group B1-B3 is entitled to (Ksh 3,750),
  • Group B4 (Ksh 4,125),
  • Group B5&C1 (Ksh 4,500),
  • Group C2&C3 (Ksh 6,750),
  • Group C4 (Ksh10,000),
  • Group C5 (Ksh 16,500)
  • Group D1&D2 (Ksh 28,000),
  • Group D3 (Ksh 35,000),

Low-skilled laborers are grouped together in this lowest occupational category in Kenya. They are Operator III, Attendant III, Officer III, and Support Staff III. The pay range for this group is between Sh11,553 and Sh14,442.

  • Job Group B2

This group categories skilled and lower-level supervising employees. The pay range for Job group B2 is between Sh14,007 and Sh17,508.

  • Job group B3

A basic salary of between Sh16,777 and Sh20,972 is earned by this category.

  • Job group 4

This group, which was formerly known as group G, is made up of skilled workers who receive a base salary of between Sh19,859 and Sh24,823.

  • Job group 5

Most of the top executives and senior experts (heads of institutions) in the civil service hold this position, and their annual salaries range from Sh23,176 to Sh28,970.

  • Job group C1

Although the workers in this group are not highly skilled, they do receive greater income, ranging from Sh28,970 to Sh39,110.

  • Job group C2

Workers in this category, formerly known as group K, make between Sh36,411 and Sh47,373.

  • Job group C3

The pay range for those who receive some training before being absorbed is between Sh44,898 and Sh56,326.

A basic salary range for job group E4 is between Sh292,765 and Sh576,120. The job group employs highly skilled and specialized workers with a high level of education and relevant work experience, the majority of whom hold high-level managerial roles.
